Seems like I’ve opened a “can of worms” here, I’ve been getting a massive load of responses (privately) and not only from regular people.... if you know what i mean.
The problems I had also involved files created around the November / December period in 2007 and not being able to open them after January 2008.
I sent various Solid Edge .Par and .Asm files to GTAC, i guess they were “courteous” about the whole situation, we were using a “different” license, similar to the one you sent me. We had a "normal" license but needed additional features and therefore used a “different” license.
If you are just using solid edge .PAR, .ASM and .DFT files, I recommend you get a license for the solid edge package “design and draft”, it will not cost you as much as solid edge “classic” which includes the explode, render, animate package, sheet metal package and FEMAP (finite analysis).
I also thought that the problem was related to Microsoft NT Backup setting the “archive” attribute date/timestamp before the last access / modified timestamp which could cause problems at the extended attribute level of the file system and the way Solid Edge accesses the file. If I set the Windows XP workstation system date / time to a previous date, I was able to open the files without a problem.
With a "normal" licesne you will still get the "0x248" status, but you will be able to work with the files. Otherwise you will get the same error and solid edge will crash. I dont know if this whole problem has been "planted" or if it is a genuine issue with the software.
